Pakistan Innovation Foundation – in collaboration with esteemed sponsors and partners – presented the FIRST EVER Women’s #Transport #Innovation #Challenge and #Hackathon in Pakistan to address the challenge of providing affordable, convenient, and respectable transport to the women of the #TwinCities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad (and beyond).
Ideas were invited in 4 broad themes, namely:
– Communications, Social Campaigns, and Behavioral Change
– Designing and Creating new Transport forms geared to women
– Using technology/apps to improve efficiency of existing system
– Innovative business models for sustainable transport
Entries were OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT on August 31, 2015.
Teams made an initial pitch on Sept 4, 2015.
A 3-day Hackathon took place on Sept 11-13, 2015.
Teams won prize money of PKR 175,000/- plus a chance to attend PIF’s Innovation Accelerator to help them advance their ideas forward. In addition, they also got mentoring and support from PIF and its partners to commercialize their ideas.
Let’s put our minds and innovative talents together to rid Pakistan’s women from everyday harassment, discrimination, and inconvenience at the hands of an exploitative transport system. Let’s help unleash the economic power of the half of this nation.
