STEM:NEXT WAVE 15 – Your Pathway to A Residential STEM SCHOOL at LUMS

Pakistan Innovation Foundation runs the National STEM School™ – a unique residential programme that provides unmatched learning opportunities and experiences to some of the best and brightest students carefully selected through a very intense and rigorous process and engages them in hands-on learning through a carefully curated programme of activities and interactions.

Since Oct 2023, STEMx is being offered in partnership with some of the leading high-schools of Pakistan, namely, Beaconhouse, Future World Schools, Cedar School and College, EMS High School, Headstart School (Kuri+Gulmohar), and Generation’s School (Karachi). However, this wave is specific for Open Admissions from High School Students around the country.

As a step towards offering these slots, we have launched STEM:NEXT WAVE 15 – a series of online talks by eminent scholars from around the world followed by challenging quizzes – and the students’ performance in these will become the basis for their selection in the 8-10-day STEM Programme in July 2025 (tentative).

Registrations are now open for STEM:NEXT WAVE 15 – YOUR GATEWAY TO STEM SCHOOL 2024- 2025.

Salient Programme Details:

AGES: 15-18 year olds interested in Science/STEM Careers

APPLY BY: May 11th, 2025 (Applying through earlier Waves gives one opportunities to re-apply if unsuccessful)

STEM:NEXT Talks: Total 8-10 talks (for 1 hr each) followed by Quizzes. Starting date May TBD, 2025.

The Varkey Foundation of United Kingdom presents the Global Teacher Prize – a $1 Million Prize that is sometimes referred to as the Nobel of Teaching – awarded every March at the Dubai Education and Skills Forum organised under the patronage of HRH Sheikh Muhammed, the Crown Prince of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Pakistan Innovation Foundation – PIF is the National Partner of Pakistan for the Global Teacher Prize.

Karachi Innovation Challenge 2016

As with the extremely successful event in 2015, the 2nd Karachi Innovation Challenge and Hackathon was hosted at Habib University. KIC&H engaged Citizen Innovators – particularly students and youth professionals – to come together to solve Karachi’s Challenges through a 3-day Hackathon and a subsequent accelerator.

The challenge was divided across FOUR themes:

1-Do It Yourself (DIY) Citizenship focussed on self-organising empowered Citizens to come together to address the City’s problems
2-Creative Humane Spaces aimed at encouraging the use of public spaces to bring together art, culture, literature, and sport to create new narratives and ownership
3-Smart City will explore the creative and innovative use of technology and innovation to build solutions to enable the City to work for its Citizens
4-Trusted Government to enable citizen ideas in openness, efficiency, and transparency in government to create trust between government and the citizens.

FOUR teams won startup support of upto PKR 300,000 each plus a chance to participate in the civic accelerator.

Four WINNING teams and Four RUNNER UP teams will be a part of the Civic Accelerator were:

Team MentHub (Runner up) wants to develop a mentoring platform to connect Mentors and kids from underprivileged areas
Team vReport (Runner up) is building a problem reporting platform
Team Aurosaviours (Runner up) have a model that converts humid air into water using Silk Thread
Team Green Buildings (Runner up) is promoting the idea of a greener Karachi through Vertical Gardening
Team Mobile KutabKhana, (Winners) One of the winning teams is taking Libraries to kids and promoting the idea of Mobile Libraries
Team Chaska On Wheels, (Winners) has made a Rikshaw for disabled people that converts into a Food Cart
Team AeroSync, (Winners) want to install public toilets in Karachi
Team Pentagon, (Winners) Believes that the biggest problem of waste management is waste separation and their model works on that

Alif Ailaan Math & Science Campaign

Alif Ailaan & Pakistan Innovation Foundation – PIF launch “Pakistan’s First Calendar of What’s Happening in the Worlds of Maths and Science”

Our Objective:
The National Maths and Science Calendar is an important part of Alif Ailaan’s Maths and Science Campaign to bring national spotlight to the quality of maths and science education in Pakistan. From March 2016 till September 2016, Alif Ailaan and partners will organise a series of events – ‘hands-on’ science events at schools astronomy events in parks, street art activities, and competitions – as part of this campaign. The National Maths and Science Calendar will be promoted through Alif Ailaan’s Social Media and inform and focus attention on these Maths and Science Activities around the country and will help the organising partner gain participants and visibility.
