#AI4Med Summer School 2.0 (2025)

After a successful run in 2024, we’re very pleased to announce that #AI4Med Summer School is being organised from early-July to end-August 2025.

The Summer School on Data and AI in Medicine (#AI4Med) seeks to build the capacity of young professionals – young doctors and professionals, medical and computer science students, as well as a select set of others – to develop a thorough understanding of health datasets, their usage, as well as tools, techniques, challenges, and opportunities in the use of health data in Pakistan. The nature and essence of the Summer School is practical and hands-on with only enough theory to make practice accessible and meaningful as well as mentoring and guidance of senior researchers and seasoned practitioners to enable young professionals and learners to explore, develop capabilities, and make deeper connections with the field.

The target audience for the Summer School is the following (in order of priority):

  • Medical (MBBS, BDS, BSN) and CS/AI/Data Science Professionals (1-5 years experience)
  • Graduate Students (PhD, MPH, MS CS, AI and Data Science, etc.)
  • 3/4/5th year Medical, CS/AI/DS Students (or exceptional junior students)
  • Business, Statistics, Mathematics Professionals and Students.

The #AI4Med Summer School shall create a critical mass and a cadre of young professionals who are attuned to and have their hands dirty with the tools, techniques, and problems of health data analytics and AI and many will evolve into either champions of data, analytics, AI and evidence; scholars and practitioners pursuing further education; or seasoned professionals actively working in this emerging area. This will not just address the shortage of high-quality talent in the medium-to-long term but will also begin to make some short-term progress on challenges in health data analytics such as availability of data, and use this to address problems and challenges.

You may apply as an individual seeking a Team, or a Team. Multidisciplinary Teams of 2-3 people comprising at least 1 Medical Professional and 1 CS/DS/AI Professional are encouraged.

This a shortened version of the 2024 programme geared towards a broad orientation of themes followed by Learning through Project work. The Programme will run from first-week of July until 30 August, 2025.

The Programme shall be completely delivered online with opportunities for local meetups in key cities.

The Programme Fee is PKR 17,500 for Students, and PKR 35,000 for Professionals.

Please fill out the following registration form to apply.

It requires you to have excelled in your first experience at STEM, taken some key learnings from your STEM experience and applied them to your own learning process and life, and be a champion of STEM within your school and community.

But above all STEMx Teaching Assistants are first and foremost the ambassador and embodiment of the kind of graduates STEM School seeks to create!

Kindly fill out this form to apply.

  • This form is compulsory to apply for Holistic Science Teaching Fellowship and Workshop. It will take between 20-30 minutes to fill out this form properly. Kindly provide us as much information about yourself, your teaching style, and your teaching challenges as possible as this is the only information we have to decide if you're a good fit for the programme. PLEASE DON'T USE CHATGPT OR ANOTHER GENAI TOOL TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS AS THEY PERTAIN TO YOUR EXPERIENCES AND YOUR DIFFICULTIES. In addition to this form, there is also a quick (less than 10 minute) Science Literacy, Attitudes, and Culture Survey which helps us benchmark you against previous applicants. That survey, however, does not contribute to your application and is useful only once you're selected. You will be directed to that survey once you submit this application form. Doing both should not take more than 30 minutes of your time.

  • INSTRUCTIONS: Once you click to submit, you will be taken to an Online Survey of Science Literacy, Attitudes and Culture on our partner website (muslim-science.com). This survey shall take less than 10 minutes to fill out. It does NOT have any bearing on your selection for this programme (which only requires filling out this form, in-person zoom interview and classroom video recording) but the science survey will be used to benchmark you, anonymously, against prior applicants to the programme.

Best Innovation Case Presentation Contest @ AKU-IED Conference http://pif.org.pk/innovation-case-contest/ http://pif.org.pk/innovation-case-contest/#respond Tue, 04 Apr 2023 19:12:10 +0000 http://pif.org.pk/?p=8028 Best Case Presentation Contest on Educational Innovations

at The 12th AKU-IED International Conference on Technology, Pedagogy, and Society

(Scroll below to fill out the Nominating form)

Pakistan Innovation Foundation, STEMx, and World Science Collaborative Ltd are collaborating with AKU-IED to organize a Best Case Presentation Contest on Educational Innovations alongside the 12th AKU-IED International Conference on Technology, Pedagogy, and Society: Critical Appreciation of the Present and Prospects for Future on Nov 30 – Dec 1, 2023 at Karachi. The purpose of the contest is to crowdsource, document, and validate homegrown organizational and pedagogical innovations in the education space, disseminate best practices, create a dialogue, and help create a national repository of such innovations. The competition seeks to invite entries/nominations in two related categories:

  • Innovative (Teaching) Pedagogies at K-12
  • Innovative Schools and Schooling Models

Most Innovative Teaching Pedagogies may include any innovative and locally designed teaching pedagogies in Language, Arts, or STEM learning that can be demonstrated to have a verifiable impact to the learning and non-learning outcomes of students.

Most Innovative Schools and Schooling Models may include private, public, non-profit, religious, online, homeschooling, or other non-traditional schools and schooling models that have attempted to tackle education differently. The specific innovations may include: innovative ways of organizing, recruiting students, financing, teaching or any innovative mix of curricular and non-curricular activities that can be demonstrated to have made a verifiable difference on educational and non-educational outcomes of the students.

The 3 Best Case Presentations shall win prizes of PKR 150K, 100K, and 50K sponsored by WSCL. Top-10 Educational Innovations shall be written up as Mini-Cases and shared via on/offline platforms.  All invited Educational Innovations (Pedagogies+Schools) shall be documented as part of a national repository and will be available on a website for dissemination and sharing.

The process will comprise of 3 stages:

  1. (Self) Nominate via filling out an online form by June 5, 2023
  2. Initial Screening via desk review and interviews and shortlisting of innovations by July 20, 2023
  3. Submit of Final Case + Powerpoint Presentation by Oct 15, 2023
  4. Case Presentations and Declaration of Winners at AKU-IED Conference on Nov 30 – Dec 1, 2023

The Jury for the Selection of Final Winners shall be announced by Pakistan Innovation Foundation/STEMx and AKU-IED.

An important part of this exercise is to enable Pedagogical and Organisational Innovations to be written in a rigorous and evidence-based manner as Case Studies in Education Innovation and published.

Nominators are requested to be generous in nominating the best possible innovations without worrying about evidence for impact at this stage. It may be possible to look at the need or availability of such evidence and make a decision based on that assessment later. PIF/STEMx shall provide research support for identifying such data and writing of these Case Studies and thus helping create an evidence-based argument for impact.

WSCL/PIF/STEMx shall explore publishing the repository and resulting mini-cases on appropriate platforms with AKU-IED and other partners.
